Jun 22, 2020 · Torrents work a bit differently. While your web browser connects to websites using the HTTP protocol, torrents use BitTorrent, so a program that can communicate over BitTorrent is needed instead: Open a torrent program. Open the TORRENT file to start the download process. Save the file to your computer. This is how a BitTorrent network basically works, where every data that has been searched and downloaded has been found through the information provided by the torrent file. How Torrents Work? The process works like this: You run peer-to-peer file-sharing software (for example, a Gnutella program) on your computer and send out a request for the file you want to download. To locate the file, the software queries other computers that are connected to the Internet and running the file-sharing software. Users find a torrent of interest on a torrent index site or by using a search engine built into the client, download it, and open it with a BitTorrent client. The client connects to the tracker(s) or seeds specified in the torrent file, from which it receives a list of seeds and peers currently transferring pieces of the file(s).
