To ensure that radio in ON, make sure to power OFF the router between the command of nvram erase at CFE and power ON again for the command TFTPD. It took me a couple of days and lot of perseverance. :-) The power off and on again in between commands was provided by KONG in one the threads on DD-WRT forum I stumbled upon duirg a related search.

This doesn't work quite well, for multiple reasons:
One is the Wireless On/Off switch, the other one is the WPS button. At this moment, the latest DD-WRT build can turn radio on/off via the WPS button only, and only if we set Services -> Turning off radio: Enable. The Wireless On/Off switch doesn't work at all, as it did in the original Netgear firmware.
